Fuel Tank

Fuel tanks are a component of an engine system. They are made to store fuel for distribution and use by an engine or any other equipment that may need fuel. In general, the fuel tank has five main functions. First, a fuel tank must provide a means to be filled with fuel. Secondly, the fuel tank must safely and efficiently store the fuel. This second operation makes for differences in the size of fuel tanks. For objects that consume large amounts of fuel at a time, it is important that the fuel tank is large enough to store a decent amount of fuel for operation. Thirdly, the fuel tank must have an accurate gauging instrument to determine the amount of fuel left in the tank. Fourth, the tank should allow for proper venting of gas fumes. Lastly, the fuel tank should have a fuel pump in order to distribute the fuel to the engine or machine.

There are several different kinds of fuel tanks that can be used in for different operations or machines. Most cars make use of fuel tanks that have a flap opening, accessible at the side of the car. Some cars have reserve tanks which are activated when the main fuel tank is running low on fuel. Fuel tanks for racing cars are called racing fuel cells, and offer extra protection in case of high-speed car accidents, or other racing dangers. Aircraft fuel tanks come in three varieties, each with its own advantages depending on the use of the aircraft. Fuel tanks are also used in manufacturing and industrial plants where machines are operated daily for production.
