A TELSTRA plan to build a fuel tank in a residential area has angered Cardiff residents, who say the tank would be a safety hazard.
Lake Macquarie City Council received a 134-signature petition that objected to the tank being built at a Telstra telephone exchange on the corner of Queens Avenue and Brown Street.Telstra wants to remove an underground 5000-litre diesel fuel tank and replace it with an above-ground 2000-litre tank. The tank, to be used for back-up power, would be 2.5 metres long, 1.4 metres high and 3.4 metres long.A fuel vent would be built on the exchange's roof. Deborah Macdonald, whose property adjoins the exchange, said the tank would pose a safety risk. Councillors are due to vote on the matter tonight.
